Marco De Luca’s New Album La Stagione Decisiva Protests Society’s Dark Side

Italian singer-songwriter Marco De Luca has released La Stagione Decisiva, his fourth solo album following Stanze Remote (2006), Due (2008) and Canzoni Inedite (2012). The record features eight tracks: three songs drawn from the repertoire of his former band Sine (with whom he played until 2000) — “Videospazzatura,” “Il Mostro” and “Un Uomo Gentile” — carefully revisited and rearranged, alongside five entirely new compositions.

What sets La Stagione Decisiva apart is its denser use of keyboards, present across every song, and a more psychedelic rock orientation. The result marks a clear departure from De Luca’s earlier work, which leaned toward new wave and darker atmospheres dominated by guitars.

The album is a pointed protest against the darker corners of contemporary society. It opens with “Videospazzatura” (Video Trash), a critique of television that feeds on human suffering for ratings. “Il Mostro” (The Monster) confronts the fear and racism born of ignorance toward anything different. “La Festa” (The Party) portrays a young girl mocked and excluded by her peers. “Alla Deriva” (Adrift) turns its attention to those living on the margins, forgotten and drifting. “15 Anni” (15 Years) addresses the exploitation of minors. “Un Uomo Gentile” (A Kind Man) sketches a gentle presence in an unkind world. “Aspiranti Modelle” (Aspiring Models) examines prostitution, while the closing track, “Il Giorno” (The Day), speaks of war.

Written, arranged and recorded entirely by De Luca in the studio, La Stagione Decisiva is a cohesive and personal statement.
